Hi guys! It’s time for another Top Ten Tuesday! TTT was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
My dudes! 2020 was a year and if at all possible, I would just love to move on and forget it. For the most part. I will say that at the beginning of the year, and as I slowed down some throughout the rest of the year, I did find some intriguing authors that I hadn’t read before. So, for this Top Ten Tuesday, it’s all about the new-to-me authors I found last year!
- Kohei Horikoshi! I love Kohei Horikoshi! My Hero Academia is fantastic and I really should get back into reading them. I’m glad I found the manga, because I was wanting to start watching the anime and I tend to want to read the books first before watching the animated version.
- James Bowen. A Street Cat Named Bob was so cute and I’m glad that I got to read it last year. It was a nice feel good book, even if I don’t remember a whole lot about it right now.
- Stjepan Šejić! He wrote one of my favourite comic books at the moment, Harleen and I’m so excited to continue reading that, and finding out more about what he has written. His version of Harley Quinn/Harleen Quinzel was fantastic and I loved reading/watching Harleen turn into Harley. So good!
- M.R. Carey. I listened to The Girl with All the Gifts last year at the start of shelter-in-place orders in my state, and that was NOT the smartest idea I have ever had. But it was a fascinating listen, and I’m curious as to whether or not anything else was written in this world of hungries and children born with the zombie virus already in them.
- Silvia Moreno-Garcia. She is one of the best authors that I discovered last year, and I definitely need to read Mexican Gothic, especially with what happened in Gods of Jade and Shadow. Just fantastic writing!
- Beth O’Leary. I listened to The Flatshare and I loved it! I have The Switch waiting for me to decide when to read it, but I’m glad to have listened to The Flatshare to begin with.
- Sarah Gailey. I’m loving Sarah Gailey’s books! I read American Hippo and listened to Upright Women Wanted last year, and they were amazing! I’m still looking for more of their stuff because awesome writing and I love how they take a look at alternative cuts of history.
- Tilly Wallace. Another shelter-in-place author, I loved listening to all three published books in Tilly Wallace’s series Manners and Monsters. I listened to all three and I’m so excited to be able to listen to the fourth one when it next comes out!
- Tamysn Muir! Okay, I know that I am LATE! But I don’t honestly care, Tamsyn Muir is amazing and I’m so glad to have found her writing! Gideon the Ninth and Harrow the Ninth are both amazing and I’m waiting on tiptoe for Alecto the Ninth.
- Terry Pratchett. I have read Good Omens before, but that was a collab between Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, and I’ll be serious when I say I wasn’t quite sure on who was writing who until I was done and read author’s notes and such afterwards. BUT! I did read a full on Terry Pratchett novel this past year, The Color of Magic, and it was so good! I do know that I need to keep reading his books to get to his real gems, but that won’t be hard to do. I really want to start reading about Death and Granny Weatherwax!
That’s my list of new-to-me authors that 2020 did give me, and I wouldn’t want to forget these, so while 2020 was a dumpster fire, I’m not too upset at it for what reading I was able to do. What new-to-you authors did 2020 give you? Will you keep reading their books? Comment below and let me know! Maybe they’ll be my 2021 authors!
