Tiny Navajo Reads: Thursday Three Things about My Home Library

Hi guys! It’s another Thursday and it’s that much closer to Friday! I know that I say this every Thursday; it’s because it’s true every Thursday and I can’t help but look forward to Friday and the weekend I get to spend with my husband!

That’s not what we’re talking about today, though we may in the future. Today, we’re talking about my home library. I sadly don’t have pictures of it’s current format as I’m rearranging it and working of cleaning up my shelves of just knick-knacks and trinkets that seem to find their way to my shelves as easy resting places, but! What I can do is describe at least 3 major ways that I organize and categorize my books. And I do promise pictures of my home library someday soon! Anyway, onto my books!

1. Organized by genre. I have specific genres that I tend to learn towards, so a lot of my shelves are organized by what genre they belong in. I have half a shelf of nonfiction for examples, and it shares its shelf with my science fiction books. I have full shelf of retellings, be them fairy tales or tall tales. I then have a shelf of my comics and graphic novels. Everything else is kind of a mishmash, but those are my main categories.
2. Organized by author. Now this I do have to put out there, but there are a few authors that I tend to buy and read nearly all of their books. I can name three shelves that are dedicated to only one author; Anne McCaffrey, Brandon Sanderson, and Neil Gaiman. Neil Gaiman is only about a half/three quarter shelf at the moment, but I am working on growing my collection of his works. The other two, I’ve been working on them since I started college and realized that no one could tell me I can’t buy books. I could buy all the books I wanted, so I started doing so!
3. Organized by size. This is one that will bother me to no end, but I do need my books all roughly the same size. So, if I have a book in the series that is really LARGE, say Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archive, and then a bunch of small paperbacks, I will need to donate/sell/give away the book that is too big, and buy a smaller one to make my shelves look pretty. I do care how my books look to the world, so if there are too many mismatched sizes, I will do the best I can to get them all, if not the same size, then roughly the same size.

So, this is 3 ways that I organize my home library. They may seem weird, or strange, and I just say tough luck, these are my books, I will organize them how I wish! How do you organize your books?
