Tiny Navajo Reads: Thursday Three Reasons Why I Pick Up a Book

Okay, sorry about yesterday guys. I was having Internet issues and I wasn’t able to get my book review written up because of it. But I have my Internet and my power back today, so I’m writing my Thursday Threes post! WHOOT!

Anyway, today’s Thursday Threes is going to be talking about three reasons why I pick up a book to read/buy. I have many reasons, but I’m just going to be talking three specific ones today that I can actually put into words.

  1. The cover. The cover is the first thing that I really see with a book, and if the cover catches my attentions that it has my attention. I like covers that are generally bright and colorful, that show me what the story may be about and what it may contain. But if the cover is dark or dull, or just doesn’t really catch my attention then it’s not something that I’m going to pick up.
  2. The blurb. The blurb of a book should be on the back of the book. I shake my head each time I pick up a book now and flip to the back to read its little synopsis thing and all I get are those silly little reviews that don’t help my choosing of books at all. But the blurb, when I can find it, has the ability to convince me to buy or read a book when the cover does not or cannot. The blurb has got to be really good to convince me to read it.
  3. How I feel about the book. This is a very vague reason. I have to have a good feeling about the book in order to want to read it or buy it. If I pick up a book, especially if it’s a book that I’ve been wanting to read for a WHILE, but I still don’t get a good feeling, I will still not read it. I will not pick up a book until it feels right to read.

So, those are some of the reasons that I pick up a book and read. They are not all of my reasons as to why I pick up a book, but they are some of the reasons why. What are some reasons why you pick up a book? What draws you to a book? Comment below and let me know!
