fruits basket 6In this volume, we see more of Akito and how much they control and manipulate the Sohma family and those possessed by the spirits of the zodiac. Tohru also meets one of the last members of the zodiac that she has not met, the Horse; this leaves just one left, the Rooster. This is a long series, but I love that we see all the different personalities of the zodiac as well as the interactions of the family.

Tohru should be having the time of her life during summer break at the Sohmas’ vacation home…but ever since Akito appeared, Yuki and the others go off every day to meet with the zodiac leader. On top of that, Yuki is acting weird…! And when Tohru encounters the Horse of the zodiac, does that leave Akito as the Rooster?! Later, as the next school term begins, the new student council assembles at last!! While Yuki and those around him are occupied, Tohru secretly visits Kazuma. She wishes to free everyone in the Sohma family from their “curse” and looks to him for a clue…Unexpectedly, however, Rin is poised to hinder Tohru’s efforts…!!

In this volume we see Akito essentially take over the vacation Tohru was having with those who have become her closest friends and family. We also see how much Tohru truly cares for her friends. She’ll do anything for them, to protect them, even if it means getting in between them and Akito’s rage.

Over and over again we see Tohru not really stand up for herself, but she does stand up for those she loves, so much so that she puts herself in danger to do it. We see her love and devotion to her friends, not only for the Sohma’s but for Hana-chan and Uo-chan. Tohru does what she can to make them happy, even if it means that her happiness is denied a little bit.

This story tells how not only do the Sohma’s need Tohru, but she needs them as well. She needs to learn to not only look out for others, but for herself as well and she learns this through interacting with the Sohmas.

Do you guys have a friend that will do anything for you? Are you that friend? Comment below and let me know!
