fruits basket 5Now, for this volume we get to see Hatsuharu on the cover. It’s amazing how beautifully every single Sohma is drawn, I’m almost jealous. This is something I like though is that even though each and every Sohma is drawn as though they are a gift from the gods, they all have nearly fatal flaws as well. They are not perfect, they just look like it.

As summer vacation inches closer, Tohru spends her days in anxious anticipation, Yuki meets a new student council member on the way to school…and Uo-chan is in love?! Who is the object of her affections?! Once summer break is in full swing, Tohru and the others take a trip to the Sohma family cottage at Momiji’s invitation. Even though they’re enjoying summer activities like swimming in the ocean and catching stag beetles, Yuki and Tohru have an ominous premonition! Meanwhile, Shigure pays a visit to the main house, where he makes a proposal to Akito–?!

In this volume, we start summer vacation and as with a lot of high school drama, love blossoms for some. But it starts for Uo-chan and in her own words, she seems to have a weakness for those who are as kind and nearly absent-minded as Tohru has the guy she has fallen for is a bit like Tohru. That’s not a bad thing, but it’s kind of cute to see a male form of Tohru. Also, this is a small bit of this volume. The major part is that Momiji has invited everyone out to the Sohma vacation house again including Tohru, only this one is on the beach.

As they are at the beach, there’s an ominous feeling spreading throughout the Sohmas as they try to figure out what may be going wrong. But it’s when Shigure goes to the main house to talk to Akito that we have some idea of what may go wrong.

What do you think of family ties? Are they end all, be all? Or can you choose your family? Comment below and let me know!
