I’ve been going through an “I have so much crap! I need to get rid of it” phase recently since I graduated grad school actually, and I have been reading a lot of minimalism, decluttering, getting rid of stuff books. I have heard of The Minimalists before, but I was never really interested in what they had to say before. But I am now, and so I’m reading all that I can about minimizing my crap and hopefully getting more out of my life.
This book is a very minimal book, which is the point. The Minimalists are all about minimalizing the excess out of their lives and living with just what they need. They want to help others find their way to minimalism as well. What’s great about this though is they give you an outline of fives areas in your life where you can minimalize but they don’t tell you what you need to get rid of exactly. They give you the outline, you fill it in. You can be as big or little of a minimalist as you want to be.
That’s also the beauty of minimalism as told by the Minimalists: you can be as minimalist as you want. It is your life, you get to decide what is right for your life. And I love that. I love I get to decide what is excess in my life and what isn’t. I get to decide how to take back control of my life. The only thing that I would say is that I wish there was a little bit more to the book. But that’s nothing against the book, just my own personal preference.
Are there ways you’re trying to take control of your life? How are you doing that? Comment below and let me know!
