Twilight Zone: 19 Original Stories on the 50th Anniversary by Carol Serling

twilight zoneI’m generally not one for horror or suspense, but the way these stories were written I absolutely loved them! I actually got this book two years ago when I was in Disney World for a family vacation and it was just sitting there in the Hollywood Tower of Terror ride and I had to have it. Excellent souvenir in my opinion!

If you remember the old Twilight Zone TV show, then you already have a basic idea of what these stories have in store for you. These stories of supernatural, unnatural, and just plain weirdness have infested what seem to be people’s normal everyday lives. A woman who wanted a haunted B&B gets what she wished for, a woman who lives in the desert buys a haunted cane that she then has to rescue from a money-grubbing nephew, a man kills his wife in a murderous rage and is turned in by the ants, a soldier in the Middle East who becomes almost a super soldier when he receives an iPod in the mail. All of these stories bring to the surface human emotions of love, jealousy, hate, courage, cruelty, terror.

These stories are alive in such a way that hasn’t really happened before in an anthology of short stories. I read short stories and anthologies quite a bit, but I end up skipping one or two in each set. This Twilight Zone pulled me in and didn’t let me go until I finished the last story. And I truly hope that there will be another anthology for me soon!

What anthologies have you read? What were they about? Comment below and let me know!
