The Darzoid’s Stone by Richard Smith
♦ ♦ ♦
This…was an interesting book. I love the basic concept, that there is a magic stone not from this world that serves as the Alchemist’s Stone from legend. If used in the proper manner, it can grant the user great power over the world. And those that left the stone in the first place are those that the Easter Island heads are based on. I like that the story also takes place over a long period of time, showing that there was a history behind this stone.
While I liked the basics of the story, it was the execution that didn’t fly that far with me. It was convoluted and made no sense. It jumped everywhere, and there were too many ideas coming forward to make it a complete story, at least that was how it felt for me. I would say though, that I did like the little twist at the end that I did not expect. It turned the sacrifice for the world trope on its head in a way that I didn’t expect. And I did enjoy that.
Overall, I wish I could say that I enjoyed it more. I liked the basic idea.
