Monstress, Vol. 2: The Blood by Majorie M. Liu and Sana Takeda

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

Well, there goes the rest of my lifeline, can someone please throw me another?!

I took a comic book and graphic novels class this past semester, and I have to say that I greatly enjoyed it and have developed a deeper love for this particular world of writing. That being said, why oh why?!?! did I have to go and do that? Now I have to wait now only for book series whose books are still being written as well as comics and graphic novels?! I’m drowning in all of this decadence!

Monstress Vol. 2Anyway, Monstress Vol. 2 starts with us still following Maika Halfwolf as she searches for answers to who she is and the ability to avenge her mother’s murder. Maika is starting to figure out that there is much more to her past than she originally thought, especially when it comes to the thing that is residing in her body. As she and the little fox, Kippa, and the cat necromancer, Ren, search out for what it was that Moriko’s mother sought, there are others that search out for the power that resides in Maika’s body.

As they travel the path that Moriko traveled, Maika realizes that her life may have not been at all what she expected. If anything, what she perceives about her life may all just be made up in a way. But it leaves it off on a cliffhanger, and there’s no more to read just yet!

I love Maika and her strength in wanting to find out what is going on with her. I love Kippa, and how they refuse to believe that Maika can be anything other than a good person. And I love Ren, the weirdest cat I have ever the pleasure of reading, but I still love them. There isn’t a lot of character development it feels like yet, but there is a lot of information for the main character to process in what feels like a short amount of time. And when she does, I’m not sure I want to be around to find out what she’s going to do. (Totally lied, yes I do, I want to see what Maika does)

What’s comic that you’ve recently gotten into that you love? Or an old series that will always be near and dear to your heart? Comment below and let me know!
