The Sorcerer of the North by John Flanagan
♦ ♦ ♦ ♦
The continuation of the adventures of Will, the Ranger’s apprentice. Though in this book, he is no longer an apprentice, he is now a full Ranger and has his own fiefdom in the North that seems quiet and sleepy even. That all changes when Alyss visits and tells him that Crowley, Ranger Commandant, and Halt, Will’s mentor, have a special reason to pull him from his fiefdom. There seems to be a sorcerer that is harassing Castle Macindaw and the Ranger’s need to figure out what is going on. They send Will there as a jongler, a traveling musician. Alyss also ends up at Castle Macindaw in disguise to help will figure out who the sorcerer is and why he is going after Lord Syron again.
What I love most about these books are the characters and how they seem so real. Will and Alyss are wonderful, as well as the Skandians and how they react to seeing a Ranger they knew from four years back. They are all well-liked, and they all make me laugh. Definitely one of my favorite series from my childhood.
