Monstress by Marjorie M. Liu and Sana Takeda

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

monstressA beautiful world of art deco, a world of magic and gods who have died, a world where there is a war going on between humans and species of human hybrids called Arcanics. A teenage survivor of this war, Maika Halfwolf is trying to figure out where she belongs, where she is supposed to be, and what the hell happened to her. She is hunter and hunted as she tries to find the answers she needs to figure out her past, what happened to her mother, and what this has to do with the association with the human Cumaea, a sect of priestesses and nuns who seek magic in the world to overcome the Arcanics. All while this is going on, a monster starts to wake…and this monster is hungry.

I’m starting to love comic books and graphic novels more and more, and this one was simply beautiful and I love the story. A girl doesn’t know what’s going on with her, or why it’s going on, so she’s set out to find the key to her past. The story is beautiful, a war between humans and a hybrid of humans with an ancient race of people.

What other books or comic books have you read that deal with prejudice and war? Did you enjoy them? If so, leave their titles below and let me know!
