March: Book Three by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell
♦ ♦ ♦ ♦
March: Book Three opened my eyes to a lot of my own country’s history that I didn’t have much knowledge on. It’s the story of John Lewis, considered one of the “Big Six” when it comes to the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s. This particular volume focuses towards the end of the Civil Rights Movement, with everything from the SNCC forcing the nation to confront its injustice to the nonviolent revolutions and the march from Selma to Montgomery, AL.
Seeing all of this through the eyes of someone who had gone through this themselves brings the American History to life. I love seeing this through the eyes of someone who went through something that I only learned about in school. This makes it more real for me. If you want to learn more about the Civil Rights Movement, this book and its two predecessors would be the ones that I encourage you to pick up these graphic novels and read up on your history.
