The Burning Bridge by John Flanagan
♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦
John Flanagan does it again with The Burning Bridge, the next book in his Ranger’s Apprentice series.
As we continue to follow Will and Halt throughout their attempts to halt Morgarath in his tracks, we end up in Celtica, a land that borders Araluen. Halt is needed in the war, while Will can be spared along with Gilan and Horace to try and enforce the treaty Araluen has with Celtica. But as they travel, the three companions find all the villages and outposts deserted, nothing and no one there. They come across a girl though, and she tells them that Wargals, Morgarath’s terrible creatures that make up his army, have been kidnapping and stealing those that were unable to leave before they came.
As Gilan rides to warn King Duncan of the possibility of Morgarath’s plan to cross the mountain pass easier, Will, Horace and the girl Evanlyn decide to follow a war party of Wargals to see where they are going. What they see is worse than they could have ever imagined and could spell disaster for King Duncan and all of Araluen.
If you were to save that which is most important to you, what would you stand up against? Would you face your worst fear, go the farthest your rope can stretch, all to save that which is most dear to you?
