Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Vol 1: BFF by Mark Paniccia and Emily Shaw

Moon GirlThis graphic novel is definitely one of the best that I have read.

Lunella is an amazingly smart girl who has an Inhuman gene and she does not want to change, should the Terrigen Cloud catch her. It is her body and it will do as she says, not what anyone else says. So, in trying to find a cure for the Inhuman gene and the Terrigen Cloud, she rarely pays attention in school, she works with all sorts of gadgets (a bit like Tony Stark, only younger and more approachable in book format), and she somehow ends up with a giant dinosaur.

Granted, Lunella is a preteen child, she is the genius character of this new series, and she is a girl. Because of all of this, or just a small part of this, she can and will come off as annoying to many people. Believe me, as a girl, I know that we can be annoying. But I also know that having different types of people shown throughout all media is a good thing! Seeing a little POC girl kick ass and show the world that she can think her way out of the many weird situations she ends up in, makes me want to cheer her on.

All I’m saying is don’t let Lunella being a girl turn you off. She is (In)human, and she will make mistakes. She will act like a child because she is a child, and she will worm her way into your heart. If you love Tony Stark, the Marvel Universe, and seeing POC kick ass and use their brains and science, you need to read this one. You REALLY really need to read this graphic novel!
